Our reviews are full of first-timers, including one gent who got his first at 63 and was back for a second. Here’s exactly what happens, start to finish, so there are no surprises.
Small fine-line designs are a lovely first tattoo. These are from Lucy’s sketchbook.
What to expect
Before, during and after.
Before
Find the artist whose style you love. Every artist has their own page and portfolio.
Think about where it’s going and roughly how big. Your artist will help with the rest.
Save a few pictures you like. Your artist will draw something that’s yours, not a copy.
Eat a proper meal, sleep well and skip the drink the night before.
Wear something that makes the spot easy to get to.
On the day
Bring photo ID. You need to be 18 or over.
Under-21s must also provide ID.
The design goes on as a stencil first. If the placement isn’t right, say so and it moves.
Need a break? Just ask. The artists check in with you throughout.
After
Follow the aftercare your artist gives you over anything you read online.
Keep it clean and don’t pick or scratch it, however much it itches.
Keep it out of the sun, sunbeds, baths, pools and the sea while it heals.
Send us a healed photo. We love seeing them settled in.
How booking works
Booking fees, dates & the small print.
Booking fee
A non-refundable booking fee secures your appointment. It comes off the final price of your tattoo on the day.
Rescheduling
Need to move your date? Give at least 48 hours’ notice and your booking fee carries over to the new appointment.
Cancellations & no-shows
Cancelling with less than 48 hours’ notice, or not turning up, means the booking fee is lost and a new one is needed to rebook.
Running late
Let your artist know as soon as you can. Depending on the delay, the session may need shortening or moving.
Life happens. If there’s an emergency, get in touch as soon as you can and the artists will always do their best to help.

Questions
Everything else you’re wondering.
How old do I need to be?
18. It’s the law in the UK, even with a parent’s permission. Under-21s must provide photo ID. We may ask anyone else to see it too.
How much will my tattoo cost?
Every custom piece is quoted individually, based on size, detail and how long it will take. Send your idea and your artist will give you a price. Flash designs on walk-in days have a set price. Last Halloween it was £31 an hour. Clients regularly mention the prices being fair: “excellent value for money”, “such a good price”.
Does it hurt?
A bit. It depends on where it goes: fleshier spots like the outer arm or thigh are easier than bony ones like the ribs, spine or feet. Most people find it far more bearable than they expected. One first-timer, aged 63, wrote simply: “No pain, I love it.”
How long will it take?
Small pieces can be done in a single short session. Bigger work takes longer: one forearm took 4.5 hours start to finish. Sleeves and backpieces are built over several sittings. Your artist will tell you when you book.
Can I bring my own design?
Yes, bring drawings, screenshots or references. Your artist will redraw it so it works as a tattoo and fits your body and placement.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes. Gift vouchers are available from the studio, so call in Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm.
Is there parking?
Yes, there’s free parking at Blaydon Precinct.
Ready for your first?
Tell us the idea, even if it’s only half-formed. Your artist will help you shape it into something that’s yours.
